Reserve an Exhibit Exploration for preK-12th grade students during the academic year.

Bring your class to the museum to learn about our state’s history, cultures, science, and art! Focus time in one gallery or visit them all. Explore at your own pace.

Available: Monday - Friday 9 AM - 5 PM
Advance reservations required.

Maximum: 60 students. Chaperones required.
Minimum: 15 students (please inquire about small school class sizes)

GRADES K - 1 🕒 1 hr / 1.5 hrs
GRADES 2 - 6 🕒 1.5 hrs

ALASKA NATIVE CULTURES
Discover and explore in the Gallery of Alaska.
K-1  Discover the cultural diversity of our state thorugh stories and hands-on explorations.
2-3 Explore Alaska Native cultures, experience fish camp, and learn about cultural traditions and seasonal activities in Alaska's Interior.
4-6 Examine cultural connections to regional resources and take part in a trade game to learn about bartering traditions.

MUSEUM SCIENCE
Discover how museum collections teach us about our world.
K-1 Find animals in the Gallery of Alaska while practicing observation and comparison. 
2-3 Apply skills of sorting and classification and learn why they are important to science.
4-6 Examine and compare skulls to learn about animal characteristics and adaptations.

DISCOVERING WHALES 
Discover adaptations and cultural connections to whales.
K-1 Try hearing and feeding like a whale. Experiment with blubber for warmth, and learn about peoples' connection to whales.
2-6 Discover adaptations throug hands-on experiments. See skulls and create a paper bowhead skeleton. Hear abou cultural connections to whales. 

EXPLORING ART 
Discover the Rose Berry Alaska Art Gallery. Sketch and create.
K-8 Discover and interpret art in many forms. Tour the Rose Berry Alaska Art Gallery. View and discuss artworks. Try hands-on art activities and sketch during free-choice gallery time.

Add-on  a visit to the planetarium before or after a Directed Discovery. Shows run approximately 30 minutes.

Go on a prehistoric journey! View Dinosaurs: A Story of Survival in the planetarium. Discover dinosaurs, see the Earth in the very distant past, and discover that not all dinosaurs went extinct! Dig deeper with themed gallery explorations and hands-on activities guide by museum docents.

Available: Mondays, 10:00-11:45 AM.

Minimum: 20 students

Cost: $10 per student

Experience the wonder of the Walt and Marita Babula Planetarium at the UA Museum of the North. Choose from our immersive fulldome shows.

• Planetarium Show Only: $6 per student
