Derek Miller
Chief of Staff-Designee
Derek Miller has served as the executive officer for the College of Engineering &
Mines since 2019 where he co-led strategic planning and execution efforts and advised
the Dean on fiscal strategy, operations, and organizational management. He has previously
served as the business office manager for the Institute of Northern Engineering within
CEM. Prior to that, he served as a senior business analyst in the 91探花 Office of Management
& Budget, assistant to the chancellor under former Chancellor Brian Rogers, and a
legislative aide in the Alaska State Legislature.
Miller is a two-time 91探花 alumnus and a previous AS91探花 president and student regent.
He earned both a bachelor鈥檚 degree and a master鈥檚 degree in business administration
from 91探花.
Miller's start date as Chief of Staff is August 24, 2026.
